DUE DATE EXTENDED! ----> Apply now! - applications due by Friday, October 30

Join Connect – a five-week course offered in a supportive peer environment that encourages empathy, builds resilience and enhances the social and emotional well-being in youth ages 13 to 18.

Participate in interactive self-discovery using tangible and engaging activities to help you embrace your unique self, and develop a sense of belonging rather than a constant need to fit in. Macy Grim, M.S., LPCC, a specialist in play and adventure therapy, will lead the high-energy sessions.

Connect will be held for five Thursdays, from 4:30 - 6:00 p.m. beginning on November 5, 2020, (except Thanksgiving) with a special last Connect meeting for parents/caregivers on December 17. Both participants and a parent/guardian will need to sign a commitment letter stating that you will be on time and attend all Connect calls to complete the program.

The value of Connect is $850, however for this time, the program is being offered at no cost.

If you have any questions, please contact us at sara@volcenter.org or (310) 212-5009.

How would you describe this program and its outcomes to schools, organizations and parents?

Connect is a community-based, interactive social and emotional wellness program focused on increasing awareness, confidence, empathy and resilience in youth. It is not a therapy group and will not take the place of formal mental health services. While teens will learn the benefits of helping others, volunteerism is not the main purpose of the program. Teens will learn more about the feelings of their peers and leave with healthy coping tools and habits they can use to better balance life.

When and where will Connect meet?

Connect will most likely meet via Zoom, but Macy will speak with each family and determine if some meetings might take place outside in a socially distant manner. Teens will need a device with a consistent internet connection, a quiet place to join the calls, and space to do the activities with the materials provided.

What if I cannot attend one of the sessions or cannot stay the whole time?

In order to participate in the program, teens must commit to being on time and attending all five Connect calls. Prior to the start of the program, both teens and a parent/guardian must sign a commitment letter stating that you will be on time and attend all five sessions to complete the program.
