Connect Teen Program
Join Connect – a five-week process group to help manage stress, build resilience and enhance social and emotional well-being for youth ages 13 to 18 years old.
Participate in interactive self-discovery using tangible and engaging activities to help you set personal boundaries, manage stress from school and virtual learning, and counter negative thoughts and self-talk.
Macy Grim, M.S., LPCC, a specialist in play and adventure therapy, will lead the high-energy sessions.
We are hosting two Summer Connect groups:
one will be held in-person at the Volunteer Center (4:00 p.m. -5:30 p.m.) and
one will be held online via Zoom (6:00 -7:30p.m.)
both groups will be held for five consecutive Tuesdays, beginning on July 6 and concluding on August 3, with a special last Connect meeting only for parents/caregivers on Tuesday, August 8.
Both participants and a parent/caregivers will need to sign a commitment letter stating that you will be on time and attend all Connect calls to complete the program. Each student will receive a package with program materials in the mail before the program begins.
The value of the Summer Connect program is $450, however for this time, the program is being offered thanks to donations from donors and sponsors.

Connect is for students attending middle school or high school in or around the South Bay or Long Beach - who want to learn ways to help manage stress, gain more resilience and confidence, practice empathizing with others, and learn how to improve their social and emotional wellness.
Connect is a community-based, interactive social and emotional wellness program focused on increasing awareness, confidence, empathy and resilience in youth. It is not a therapy group and will not take the place of formal mental health services. Youth will learn the benefits of helping others, practice countering negative thoughts and self-talk and leave with healthy coping tools and habits they can use to better balance life.
Teens will gain:
- Relaxation and grounding techniques

- Improved confidence and self-esteem
- Healthy coping skills
- Practice with personal boundaries
The value of the Summer program is approximately $450 per student, however, thanks to donations from private donors and sponsors, all participants will receive scholarships this Summer. Students will be asked to write a thank you for their scholarship.
Connect this Summer will host two groups, one will meet via Zoom and one will meet in-person. Participants can indicate the format(s) they are interested in on the application. For the Zoom-based group, participants will need a device with a consistent internet connection, a quiet place to join the calls, and space to do the activities with the materials provided.
In order to participate in this program and gain the intended benefits, participants must commit to being on time and attending all five Connect meetings. Prior to the start of the program, both participants and a parent/guardian must sign a commitment letter stating that they will be on time and attend all five sessions to complete the program.
No, a smartphone is not a requirement for participating in this program. Students who do not have access to texts, can use email or small groups to complete the activities.
